We’ve all heard:

“Eat fewer calories, you’ll drop the pounds.”

“Exercise more and burn off the fat.”

“Drink less sugary beverages and watch your waistline shrink.”

“Cut the carbs and you cut your body fat.”

Typical weight loss guidelines, right?

Many of us know “HOW” to lose weight, yet we still fail to reach our goals. But why?

Have you ever considered that dieting and exercise ALONE will not sustain your health and weight loss goals? And that the missing key to your weight loss and health success is your FAITH?

“Your faith is your greatest asset to your health.” Your faith or lack thereof could be the underlying cause to many issues you may be deal with. How so? Let me explain.

  • Lack of Faith = Fear
  • Fear leads to unnecessary stress
  • Stress causes you emotional/uncontrolled eating and depression (lack of activity)
  • Excess eating and lack of exercise puts you on a direct path to high blood pressure, obesity, Diabetes and heart disease
  • Uncontrolled Disease States = DEATH

It is your faith that will get you over the hump when your motivation, nutrition and exercise have stalled.

Your faith will propel you when:

  • You seek comfort in food and the emotional eating begins
  • You fall off the wagon and can’t seem to get back on
  • You’ve given up on your weight loss goals

Your faith in God and yourself will give you the push you need to keep going.  Stop trying every “fitness gimmick” and “fad diet” out there. And try getting fit God’s way. Building a stronger mind and body to be a blessing to his kingdom.

To achieve and sustain your health/temple, eat nutritiously, exercise AND build a healthy spirit. There is a direct relationship between faith/spirituality and health. True healing starts on the inside and exudes on the outside. It is nearly impossible to heal the body without first healing the soul.

3 John 1:2 says Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Now ask yourself, “What am I doing to preserve my temple? What is my approach to staying healthy? Do I view and treat my body as the temple it is? Am I allowing God on my journey to becoming a fit individual?”

Remember these few tips as you continue the lifelong journey of preserving your temple.

  • Faith Without Works Is Dead and work without faith will get you nowhere. How can you strive towards something you don’t have faith you will ever reach? You will never give all your effort to it.
    • Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:17
  • Eliminate the Excuses: Whatever your excuse, it’s time to stop believing it.
    • It’s too hard: Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through God who strengthens me
    • It’s taking too long to see results: Patience is virtue. It didn’t all come at once, so it won’t go away at once. Isaiah 40:31 says But they that wait (key word) upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
  • Have Faith:  If you don’t think you can do it or that God can’t bring you through it, you are destined to fail. Know that God has you covered and let go of the worrying and depression that can derail your health plans.
  • Get Fit for a Purpose outside of yourself. It is more than “just” about you. You are less likely to let God down and having a “purpose” gives you added motivation.
  • Take God with You: No journey is safe to take without God. Your journey to better health is no different.
  • Start Exercising and Eating Healthier: Commitment and consistency are key. If you have those two, you are well on your way. Think colorful plate, whole foods (nothing processed) and portion control.
